To meet increased market demands for a flexible, high-level palletizer with a compact footprint, BW Integrated Systems, a Barry-Wehmiller Packaging Systems company developed its Maximus Mid-Speed Case Palletizer, through customer insight, which was showcased at PACK EXPO Las Vegas. The palletizer primarily serves the household, chemical, personal care, and specific beverage industries, but can serve many other markets in the mid-speed palletizing arena. Maximus is an all-electric case palletizer, as are the company’s peripheral devices, pallet dispensers, sheet inserters, etc.

The pack ML-enabled machine utilizes layer forming technology and features a small footprint with an interactive operator interface that allows for better collection of information. The operator interface is further designed with pattern building software and visually guided fault recovery. Operator manuals are available in the HMI.

The Maximus is made to be versatile with product handling and simple to maintain while allowing easier accessibility and maintenance to major systems with a clean, open design made out of plexiglass. This further allows greater visibility in monitoring machine operations. It utilizes a quick vertical start-up philosophy for improved productivity. The machine has a two-piece split-for-ship application, so it can get through most doorways and also allowing quicker vertical start-up. Once on the floor, the top-frame is set back onto the base frame with a bolt-together construction and quick disconnect controls.

Other features include:

  • Versatile pattern forming capabilities for a wide range of products or SKUs
  • A fully automated integrated pallet dispenser
  • Fully electric and layer table options

“We’ve made the ownership and installation easier and developed self-driven error recovery,” said Earl Wohlrab, director, product strategy & innovation, BW Integrated Systems. “If something has gone wrong inside the machine, we take the operator into it through the HMI. We show them the general area of the machine and then we show the component that may have error. The operator gets visual cue of where to go and, not only what to do but what to look for.”
