Schreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based provider of functional label solutions for the healthcare industry, in combination with the KitCheck systems from Bluesight, offers an RFID technology-based solution that optimizes digital inventory control in hospital pharmacies. With the demands made on automated medication management continuing to increase, Schreiner MediPharm’s Robust RFID-Labels enable precise tracking of drugs while reducing medication errors and enhancing supply efficiency.

Schreiner MediPharm has developed high-performance RFID-Labels adapted to the requirements of the KitCheck Scanning Stations, enabling reliable identification of drug containers. KitCheck is a proven system by Bluesight, U.S. in hospital and pharmacy operations intelligence, for efficient digital inventory management. To date, more than 325 million units of injectable emergency and anesthetic drugs in 900 North American hospitals have been captured by the system.

The robust RFID-Labels from Schreiner MediPharm can easily be applied in pharmaceutical production settings and are designed for high-speed labeling systems. Their specially developed Robust RFID structure permanently protects the chip against mechanical stress and functional failures. Thanks to their optimized design, the RFID-Labels can be reliably applied even to primary containers with narrow radii such as vials or syringes. Moreover, they offer a wide variety of additional functions such as integrated hangers, removable documentation labels, and tamper-evident seals.

In the application, Schreiner MediPharm’s RFID-Labels can automatically be read out in the KitCheck Scanning Stations using Bluesight’s tracking software. The systems not only capture the drug itself but also important information such as batch numbers, expiration dates, missing or expired drugs, or indications of previously opened drugs. Due to a digital first-opening indication feature additionally integrated into the label, the integrity of the containers can be monitored at unit level.

The RFID-Labels from Schreiner MediPharm, in combination with the KitCheck systems, create the basis for hospital pharmacies to benefit from automated, digital medication management.

“Due to the utilization of RFID technology, drug inventories can be monitored in real time, which facilitates the work of hospital pharmacies and increases safety along the entire supply chain,” says Nick Petersen, VP Corporate Development at Bluesight.

“Standardized and reliable RFID labeling of pharmaceutical products improves workflow, helps reduce medication errors, and enhances patient safety,” adds Sebastian Münscher, Senior Product Manager RFID/NFC Solutions at Schreiner MediPharm.
