The move reflects the company’s continuing dedication to championing sustainable practices, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints, within the agricultural industry.

Fresh Del Monte Produce has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which is working to drive climate change action by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets. Fresh Del Monte Produce is the first global marketer of fruits and vegetables to commit to reducing its carbon footprint in an effort to limit global warming to less than 2 °C.

The company will be working with SBTi to develop its target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Today, all bananas grown by Fresh Del Monte in Costa Rica, as well as 74% of all pineapples grown by the company that are sold in North America and Europe, are sourced from carbon neutral farms.

Fresh Del Monte’s recent update to its 2018-2019 Corporate Sustainability Report includes the development and launch of its Environmental Action Tool and database to track company-wide greenhouse gas emissions for the first time in the company’s history.
